RESEARCH EXPERIENCES
Since 1987 she is engaged in basic and applied research, she has particular skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques, basic and applied virology and basic immunology. Main research fields in these years: clinical immunology; use of retroviral vectors expressing Tat mutant for HIV-1 gene therapy; development of replication-defective Herpes simplex vectors (HSV-1, HSV-2) for gene transfer in vivo and their application in animal models, both as gene therapy and vaccination vehicles, and analysis of behavior and neurological diseases by gene transfer into neurons with HSV-1 vectors; development of challenge models, based on wild-type Herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2) engineered to express HIV-1 vaccine genes, for efficacy studies of the vaccine candidates in the murine system.
